Extractions and Wisdom Tooth Removal

While we usually try to keep natural teeth, there are unfortunately circumstances in which a tooth needs to be removed. These include teeth that are too broken down to restore or heavily affected by gum disease. Malpositioned teeth may also affect the health of neighbouring teeth and may require removal to keep the other teeth healthy. Sometimes, healthy teeth may also need to be removed to create space to align other teeth during braces treatment.

In cases where the tooth is severely broken down or brittle, or it is buried under the gums or jawbone, a minor surgical procedure may be required to remove the tooth. This is especially common in wisdom teeth which do not have enough space to erupt fully into the mouth.

At SSD, we aim to make this seemingly frightening procedure as comfortable as possible. A numbing gel is applied onto your gums prior to the numbing injections to make them as painless as possible. Once you are numb, the tooth can be removed with minimal discomfort.
