Smile Specialists Dental Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why do I need to visit a dentist?
Scheduling time to visit a dentist is a good way to prevent small problems from worsening. Small issues detected in their infancy can be immediately addressed before they evolve into larger problems that cost more to treat and require more invasive procedures.
How much do dental treatments cost?
Dental treatment costs vary depending on the type and complexity of the dental procedure. Our dentist will advise you during consultation.
Under what conditions do you offer dental subsidies?
Smile Specialists Dental is a CHAS and MediSave-accredited dental clinic. For more information on MediSave and CHAS subsidies, please refer to the Ministry of Health’s website.
How often should I get a dental check-up?
The recommended interval for routine dental checkups is once every 6 months. However, each individual has unique needs: Some may require several more visits than others depending on their overall dental health.
Is it necessary to visit a dentist if I don’t show any symptoms?
Regular visits to the dentist can prevent problems from developing. Although you may not be displaying signs or symptoms, you may still have dental problems that only a dentist can diagnose.
Why is flossing important?
Flossing may help prevent the formation of cavities and gum disease. It removes a sticky film called plaque which, if left unchecked, can harden into a rough substance called tartar. When tartar collects along your gum-line, it can lead to gum disease.
Plaque also contains bacteria. This bacteria feeds on leftover food or sugar in your mouth and releases an acid that can erode the outer shell of your teeth, leading to cavities.
Brushing alone doesn’t effectively remove all plaque between teeth: flossing helps clean out plaque in areas that a toothbrush can’t reach.
How often should I brush my teeth?
Using mouthwash can offer several benefits including, reducing the risk of bad breath, cavities, or gum disease. They also offer relief from dry mouths or pain that comes from oral sores.
Keep in mind, however, that mouthwash does not replace brushing and flossing. It is designed to serve as a helpful addition to your daily oral hygiene routine.
